IMPACT  AND PLANNING:

Katie Titus Literacy Fund (KTLF) has partnered with the Binghamton City School District (BCSD) and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to provide books to children from birth to age five.

    ●    According to a recent census there are approximately 2000 children in BCSD under the age of five

    ●    Currently more than 300 children in BCSD's Pre-K and PACT programs are enrolled and receive an age-appropriate book delivered to their homes

    ●    A PACT program educator visits the home monthly, creating opportunities for parents and children to read together

    ●    Pre-K children receive books that can be used in the classroom

    ●    The first book delivery occurred January 2025

    ●    KTLF began this initiative with $35,000. This includes partnerships of individual donors and local foundations

    ●    Our goal is to raise $40,000 each year, over the next five years and to enroll 1000 children

Missions Matter:

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Mission is to inspire a love of reading by giving books, free of charge, to children from birth to age five.

Roxie Oberg, Fund Advisor of Katie Titus Early Literacy fund and former Binghamton City School District Administrator and Family Literacy Teacher, worked with parents, and taught them how to engage with their children in reading.

"When you give your child a book, you give them a gift that keeps on giving" says Oberg.

Katie Titus Early Literacy Fund

The Katie Titus Early Literacy Fund, established in 2019 in loving memory of Katie Titus, supports projects, programs, and organizations in the Broome County New York community that provide early literacy services to families and children.

Katie Titus was a week from her 17th birthday when she died as a result of an automobile accident. A junior at Binghamton High School, Katie was an active member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, Binghamton Athletes Care, girls varsity swim, and a “Teens in the Tier” reporter for the Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin. Katie was a beautiful young lady with a wonderful insight into life and people. She possessed a strong sense of justice and held a strong desire to help others. Along with these qualities, Katie was notable for a ready laugh and a quick wit.

Katie’s first love was reading and writing. Her hope was to attend college and major in communication. This fund is established in her memory so that young children have the opportunity to learn and grow through a love of reading.
